Plan for Application
Given that the CCSS reading standards emphasize text-dependent questions and the authors’ concern that “. . . a focus on text-dependent questions may create a nation of teacher-dependant kids” let’s give student-created text-dependent questions a try. After reading the steps suggested by the authors for doing so and the case study (pp. 43-47), identify a text you can use with one of your classes to try letting students create text-dependent questions.
Tell Us Your Plan (Post by end of Week 3)
What text have you selected and why? Please provide the relevant context (grade level, course, content, resources) for your planned application. How will this approach be different from the way you’ve traditionally approached this text?
Apply
Put your plan into action in your classroom.
Reflect (Post by end of Week 4 by replying to your own Plan Post) How did it go? What successes, challenges, and/or insights did you and your students encounter? What might you do differently next time?
Interact
Over the course of the two weeks, don’t forget to respond to another participant’s plan or reflection.
